Bavarian Forest Winter
Snow-covered meadows and forests as far as the eye can see, crystal-clear mountain air and a bright blue sky – this is a winter holiday in the Bavarian Forest. Whether winter sports in the famous ski region Großer Arber, the cross-country paradise with perfectly groomed cross-country trails, snowshoeing in a fantastic winter idyll, fast or comfortable sledding or simply building a snowman with your loved ones - the winter fun in the Bavarian Forest is almost limitless.
Try new winter sports
The Bavarian Forest also has a lot to offer for adventurers and trendsetters. Try your hand at snow kiting, snow biking or airboarding. Driving down the slope on a big tire (snow tubing) or even inflatable boat (snow rafting) also guarantees lots of fun for young and old.
Face to face with sled dogs
If you want to experience a very special snow adventure, you should go on a sled dog tour. At several husky farms you can learn how the dogs are prepared for their work, which driving techniques are available and much more. After a dog sled ride, you can end the day on reindeer skins by the campfire.
Pure romance on a sleigh ride
Or how about a romantic sleigh ride? Cuddle up to your partner under a warm blanket and admire the picturesque snowy mountain landscape at a leisurely pace.
Wellness and relaxation in the Bavarian Forest
Do you prefer a relaxing wellness vacation? What could be nicer in winter than breathing in the fragrant scent of essential oils in a hot sauna while looking at a unique winter world? In the Bavarian Forest there are numerous thermal baths and saunas where you can relax and recharge your batteries. The adventure pools in the region promise fun for the whole family.Â
Our in-house wellness area is also ideal after a strenuous mountain hike to warm up and relax.
Christmas wonderland Bavarian Forest
A special highlight is the Christmas season in the Bavarian Forest. Escape the hectic everyday life and experience a magical winter wonderland. Houses and nature shine in the most beautiful light, on every corner there are small Christmas markets with handicrafts, regional delicacies and in Bodenmais you can marvel at the largest handblown Christmas tree ball in the world. With a campfire and romantic nativity scene, the SchweinhĂĽtter forest Christmas is guaranteed to create a festive atmosphere. And in Pullmann City in Eging am See, Westerns and Christmas merge into an unforgettable experience.
The mystical time of the "Rauhnächte"
“Between the years” then ghosts, witches and perch go on their mischief in the so-called rough nights. Between December 21 (winter solstice) and January 6, many places in the Bavarian Forest maintain the customs of the rough nights. Eerily beautiful figures with hand-carved masks dance wildly through the streets and fire to drive away evil spirits. A great pleasure for young and old.Â
Anyone who has experienced the magic of winter in the Bavarian Forest will always come back.
